Pre Budget Report 24th November 2008 Temporary Reduction in the Standard Rate of VAT from 17.5% to 15%
Our customers will be aware that the government has reduced the standard rate of VAT from 17.5% to 15% from Monday 1st December 2008 for a period of 13 months. Like many small retailers, we have had to investigate the best way of dealing with this reduction. Many of the products we sell are ZERO rated, and this change does not affect items such as books. Of the VATable items we sell, many are of low value, and the change in price is minimal.
For example-
Card priced at £2.00: VAT at 17.5% is 30p. VAT at 15% is 26p. Difference = 4p
CD priced at £15.00: VAT at 17.5%= £2.23 VAT at 15% is £1.96 Difference= 27p
We are sure you will understand that there would be significant staff time & material expenses involved in re-calculating and re-pricing each single item in the webshop. Our decision, therefore, is to leave the marked prices of VATable items as they are.
However, given that our system calculates exactly how our sales are broken down over the course of each day, we know the total amount gained from not re-pricing our goods.
As a registered Scottish charity, this 'extra' 2.5% will be re-directed towards our charitable aims of Christian mission and church planting in various parts of the world.
Of course, should you wish the reduction in VAT to be passed onto you, please let us know via the 'Comments' option as you complete your purchase, and we will arrange for the appropriate amount to be deducted from your total purchase price.
Please do not hesitate to speak to our manager, Andrew Lacey, if you have any questions on this policy.

PRICES & AVAILABILITY A note about our prices. We try to give our customers excellent value, and you will find some great bargains on our website! You should be aware, though, that we normally retail at the publishers recommended prices. In this way, not only do we give a fair deal to authors and publishers, but we are able to return about 12% of the price you pay to our wider ministry. You may be able to find your items cheaper elsewhere- but we would be grateful if you could also consider where your money is going, and who will eventually benefit!
Normally, we try to maintain a price structure that means that the same price will be paid either instore or on the web. However, we work in a highly competitive marketplace, and on occasions special prices may be offered on the website that are not advertised instore, or vice versa. Similarly, as a partner in other internet sales communities, there may be prices offered on these communities which are different. We are happy to operate a 'Price Match' on such items, and where this is pointed out to us, we would endeavour to give you the best price from the various structures we have operating. The main exception to this is Special Prices that we offer from time to time to our local Partnership churches- please ask for details of these promotions.
All prices on our website are believed to be correct. However, sometimes stock may need to be purchased to complete your order from another supplier at a different price. We will always attempt to absorb any increase, or to pass on any decrease. However, should a price increase be necessary we would let you know before completing the sale. We endeavour to ensure that only items which are currently available are displayed for sale on this web site. Not all items are held in stock, and may need to be ordered from distributors. Should this mean a delay of more than five working days, we would notify you to ensure this will meet your requirements. If not, an alternative will be offered or the order can be cancelled and a full refund given.
Request for discounts for full time Christian Workers or Church Partnership arrangements should be indicated in the 'Order Notes' box. When this has been verified, we will then adjust the amount to be charged to your credit card by the appropriate amount.
OUR SERVICE & STOCKING POLICY In the Bookshop we aim to serve a wide cross-section of the Christian community. We therefore stock books & resources that are written from many different viewpoints, and emanate from many denominations. Exploring the Bookshop or our website will find God-given faith expressed in many different ways, and we trust that all items will honour the Lord Jesus Christ as the only Saviour of the world.
We would always strive to ensure that our products reflect mainstream Trinitarian Christian doctrine, as typified in the Apostles Creed. As an evangelical Christian organisation, we do hold that Truth is important, and in Biblical matters of doctrine, absolute. We therefore reserve the right NOT to stock or supply any item which we feel would express views that run counter to our beliefs. We would also reserve the right NOT to provide our various services where doing so might be seen as endorsing views which would compromise the stance of our own organisation on doctrinal or practical matters
Stocking or advertising an item should not be taken as endorsement of any particular product or the views expressed in that product, either by GLO as an organisation, or by any of our staff.
It is not possible to review every item that is brought into stock, or shown on our website. Within the wide range of items that we stock we accept that there may be some items or views expressed which not all Christians may agree with. Where a customer feels there is a fundamental incompatibility between the values and ethos of our organisation, and a particular item, they are welcome to draw this to our attention, in whatever way is most convenient, and we will consider those views. If appropriate, we would then withdraw that item from sale.
We thank you for your interest in reading this information, and trust that God will richly bless you as a result of your visit to our website.
